Liverpool may use Minamino as part of a swap deal for Argentina winger

Liverpool could be ready to offer Japan midfielder Takumi Minamino to Sevilla as part of an exchange deal for the Argentina winger Lucas Ocampos according to The Star.

Minamino was sent out on loan to Southampton last month after failing to make an instant impact at Anfield following his £7million move from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020.

According to Spanish newspaper La Razon, the Reds have identified the Argentina winger as the man to add pace and quality to their faltering attack.

During a pre-match press conference, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp explained why they felt the loan move would benefit Minamino in the long term.

Speaking to LFCTV Klopp said: “Takumi is an incredibly good player and we didn’t give him enough chances, that’s the truth. That’s for different reasons.

He is there for 17 games now and in the situation Southampton is, if Takumi stays fit he has a good chance to play 17 games, which helps everybody.

“I hope it’s a win-win situation.”

Ocampos is said to have a £56million release clause in his contract with the La Liga side and Liverpool would like to reduce the cash exchange by adding Minamino to their offer.

Minamino joined the Reds from Salzburg in the 2020 January transfer window after Liverpool activated his £7.25 million release clause, making him the first Japanese player to play for the club.
