What a result that was for Liverpool on Sunday, hammering their bitter rivals Manchester United, seven goals to nil at the Anfield Stadium. That is exactly the result that Liverpool needed to remind everyone that this team are far from finished.
Less than 12 months ago Liverpool were fighting to win all four trophy’s only to narrowly fall up just short last season. Jurgen Klopp signed a new contract only a few short months ago and the Anfield faithful absolutely love the German manager.
Klopp expressed his delight at full-time. He told BBC Sport, “We need results and performances and tonight we got both. The start of the game was super dominant and super flexible.
“A lot of moments in my mind where we were waiting for the right moment. Second half starts like it starts. Two goals, wonderful and from that moment on we were flying. We know the result is a freak but the performance was outstanding and that is what I take.
“A few months ago everyone thought it was a good moment to play Liverpool – you can’t say it publicly but everyone thought it – because they felt we were struggling a lot but now it is less of a good moment, we look much more like ourselves. It is important that everyone knows we are here and we are still alive.”
Liverpool move up to fifth in the table after that result and they play Bournemouth next in the 12:30 game and you can just image the momentum the players and management will have after that result.
It’s hugely important that they get the full three points from that one next weekend and then if results go their way, they could be back inside the top four.
This Liverpool are far from done and if they manage to get into that all important top four and have a good summer in the transfer window, Liverpool won’t be long getting back up to the top of the table to where they belong. It will be like betting a good horse at the Cheltenham betting in backing Liverpool to get back to where they belong.
Liverpool are only three points behind Spurs, who lost at Wolves on Saturday, while Newcastle look to be fading after a fine first few months of the season. Would you bet against Liverpool in getting into the top four, I certainly wouldn’t.. Next Saturday is huge for the Reds of Liverpool.
