What is gone wrong with Liverpool?

Another awful result for Liverpool at the weekend, losing to Nottingham Forest at The City Ground, now we have to give Forest some credit for the great performance they put in and it just goes to show again why the Premier League, is the best league in the world.

The high standards and level Liverpool have been playing at over the last few season has been incredible, you only have to look at the Premier League live scores and you will see just how tough a league the Premier League is. The Anfield club are also extremely unlucky that they are playing at a time when Manchester City are so good.

Because if it wasn’t for Pep Guardiola and his men, Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool squad would most defiantly have a lot more silverware in the bag.

I personally think that Liverpool will just have an off year this year, they came so close to winning everything last year and fell at the final hurdle. Do you not think this would have an affect the following season? Course it would and of course there best player in my view Sadio Mane leaving the club didn’t help either.

Liverpool reached 92 points points last season, just one behind champions Manchester City, and TalkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara reckons their poor recruitment has cost them.

“How has this squad all of a sudden got so bang average?

“I know they’ve got injuries, they’ve got big injuries to key players I get that, everyone picks up injuries, but this team has competed with Man City for three/four seasons.

“They haven’t played the same XI the whole time in the last three seasons, they’ve picked up injuries and still competed.

“When I look at this team, I’m looking at it going, ‘how have they dropped off so much?’ And the truth is they haven’t invested.

“They’ve relied on [Virgil] van Dijk being unbelievable for a few seasons and now he’s dropped off because of his injury, even though he was brilliant against Man City.

“And the team’s aged. They haven’t invested in it, they haven’t renewed the team and the players they have brought in aren’t good enough like they had in the past, like [Sadio] Mane.

“So the problem that they’ve now got is, is that they’ve taken a step backwards and they’ve got to figure out how to get out of it.

“But I don’t see them getting into the top four. I can’t see them breaking into the top four with that team.”

Worrying times if your a Liverpool fan, but you can’t win every year, I’d say Liverpool fans will just have to settle for whatever they can this season and hope next summer is very productive in the transfer market.
