Argentina’s Lionel Messi decided to treat his World Cup winning team mates and staff with an extremely special gift this week.

Messi, who was named Player of the Tournament in Qatar, got in touch with iDesign Gold’s CEO Ben Lyons, who revealed the winger wanted “a special gift for his team” in honour of guiding the nation to their first World Cup triumph since 1986.

Lionel is not only the Goat but he’s one of iDESIGN GOLD’s most loyal customers and got in touch with us a couple of months after the World Cup final. He said he wanted a gift for all the players and staff but wanted something different from the usual gift of watches.”

Lyons suggested the idea of gold iPhones inscribed with the player’s names and numbers engraved and Messi was said to have loved the idea, so 35 gold iPhones were subsequently produced, a treat which cost £175,000 in total for the PSG man, pocket change for a man who has won all there is to win in football.

Not a bad gift to receive from a player who many regard as the greatest to ever play the game, is it?
