British racing legend Lewis Hamilton has revealed what will keep him behind the steering wheel of an F1 car after singing a 10 month contract extension with Mercedes.

It was expected that the world champion would sign a multi-year deal but according to The Sun Hamilton wants to see if he is still smiling behind wheel at end of season before deciding his future.

The 36-year-old is on the hunt for an eighth world title that would see him overtake the joint record of seven titles he currently shares with Michael Schumacher.

Hamilton joined Schumacher as a seven-time F1 world champion following his victory in Istanbul after starting from sixth on the grid last year.

The Brits victory meant that Hamilton is statistically the most successful driver of all time due to him currently holding or sharing all of F1’s biggest records.

The Mercedes driver currently holds the records for most victories, pole positions, podiums and points, equalling F1 legend Michael Schumacher’s prestigious titles record which now means that the British driver is statistically the most successful F1 driver of all time.
