LA Lakers star and NBA legend LeBron James has become an official partner of the Fenway Sports Group, the company which owns Premier League champions Liverpool.

The report comes from Boston Globe, who note that, while LeBron had previous affiliation with FSG, his stake in the company has grown exponentially, with the four-time NBA champion now becoming the first black partner in the 20-year history of the company.

As is mentioned in the report, FSG has plans to increase the number of sports teams they own at current even further, which could play into LeBron’s hands, with the 36-year-old thought to have dreams of owning his own NBA side.

LeBron remains one of the best players in the NBA, and ageless as he is, he probably will until the day that he retires. However, at 36-years-old, his days at the top of the game are surely numbered, so it makes sense for him to be expanding his business portfolio in anticipation for the end of his career.

Just what LeBron’s deeper involvement in the Fenway Sports Group will mean for the likes of Liverpool remains to be seen, but it’s difficult to see a negative out of them having more money in the bank – which they will while partnered with the American. Forbes estimate him to be worth $275M.
