Lebron James breaks NBA all-time points scoring record

LeBron James made history in the NBA last night as he broke the record for the most points scored in the sport’s history.

38-year old James needed just 36 points to break the record, previously held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar which had stood since 1989.

The points came for James late in the third quarter against Oklahoma Thunder, a match James and his Lakers ultimately lost 133-130.

The moment was witnessed by a jubilant crowd, amongst whom were his sons Bronny and Bryce and shortly after the record-breaking moment, the game was paused as he congratulated further on the court alongside Jabbar.

Speaking after the match, James admitted that he doesn’t think he’ll ever feel the same as he did when he heard the crowd cheer his record points shot.

When that shot went in, I felt like I was on top of the arena. The roar from the crowd, I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to feel that feeling again.

When everything stopped, I had an opportunity to embrace the moment, see my family and the fans, it was pretty cool.”

With James now sitting at the top of the scoring charts, it remains to be seen whether anyone will catch him, with Kevin Durant the closest active player to him, on 26,684 points.
