Konate was a surprise selection in the Liverpool starting XI this afternoon, with Joel Matip and Virgil Van Dijk ordinarily Jurgen Klopp’s preferred centre-back pairing.
However, the summer signing from RB Leipzig has frequently been given his opportunities to impress in cup competitions, a bracket which today’s game falls into.

Klopp kept the faith in Konate and has reaped the rewards in the first-half of the Wembley semi-final as the defender rose above Nathan Ake and headed into the back of the net.
