The former Kilkenny hurler Eddie Brennan was speaking at a Guinness launch in Dublin this week and gave his opinion on the Whole Brian Cody and Henry Shefflin handshake after the Leinster Hurling final at Croke Park.

“It’s a sad sight to see, that this is happening,” said the former Kilkenny great and quoted by IrishMirrior

“I don’t know the intricacies or the ins and outs of it but I suppose a lot of us don’t. It’s just disappointing. I’ve been in the dressing room with both of them and, as I said, it’s just not a good look at the moment.”

“Once you make a comment on something you need to be really, really informed and I suppose I don’t want to go down the route of opinion. The only thing you can do with all these things is you speak on what you know and you speak on facts.

“I’d love to know the detail, I think we all would love to know maybe what has brought it to this point. Maybe we’ll never know.”

“I think privately I can see it from both sides,” Brennan said. “I can put a level of understanding on it but, as I said, it’s just disappointing to see but, look, it’s a competitor’s arena and it’s no place for the fainthearted at times. That’s all.

“As I said, it’s just disappointing to see and I suppose you’re in different corners now.”

“All I do know is that when we were in that environment, Brian Cody is solely focused on his job and that’s all he’s going to do.

“After that, I don’t know the detail and as I said to you, I think we’d all love to know what the ins and outs of it are and unless I have facts I wouldn’t be going down that route. Will we know at the end of the season? I don’t know. I’m as curious as ye are.”
