This World Cup was seen by many as the last chance for the Belgian “Golden Generation” to try and win a major tournament, but it is looking likely that they will underachieve at the final opportunity.
This week, Kevin De Bruyne admitted that this Belgium squad is “too old” to win a World Cup, with 11 of the 26 players representing the nation in Qatar aged 30 or over.
Pablo Zabaleta hit out at De Bruyne and the Belgium team after their lacklustre performance against Morocco, accusing them of “lacking passion”.

“We saw, no passion, no energy, nothing. Of course they still have that individual quality that can help them progress, but it is really disappointing to see the players not fighting for their country.”
The Red Devils face Croatia on Thursday afternoon where a loss coupled with a Morocco win against Canada would see them exit the competition at the group stage for the first time since 1998.
