Husband of Kenyan world record holder on the run after suspected murder of Tokyo 2020 athlete

The husband of Kenyan world record holder Agnes Tirop is on the run as the police launch an investigation into the athlete’s murder, reports the Daily Star.

Tirop was one of the finest female athletes that Kenya had on offer, having competed in the 5000 meters at this year’s Tokyo Olympic Games, finishing fourth, and having set the world record for the women’s 10km road race just last month.

As is mentioned in the report by the Daily Star, Tirop was tragically found dead with a stab wound in her home on Wednesday. Tirop, who was just 25-years-old, is believed to have been stabbed in the neck with a knife.

The report notes that her husband is the prime suspect and is currently on the run. There was evidence at the scene of an argument between the pair, which has seemingly ended in tragedy. The police believe there to be CCTV on the premises.

We can only hope that the person responsible for Tirop’s death is apprehended and punished as soon as possible. Still, that will not repair the heartbreak caused by her tragically premature passing.
