What Nuno Espirito Santo had to say about Tottenham striker Harry Kane after win over Manchester City

Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo is expecting Harry Kane to still be a Spurs player come the end of the transfer window.

Kane was not included in the matchday squad for Tottenham’s clash with Manchester City on Sunday afternoon. As the Daily Mail report, the England captain has been linked with a move to the Etihad.

There is currently nothing to suggest that Kane is imminently heading to the Etihad, but his omission for Spurs’ Premier League opener has left people wondering if there’s something going on behind the scenes.

It remains unclear if that is the case, but manager Nuno Espirito Santo doesn’t appear to be aware of any ongoing negotiations if they do exist. He revealed that he’s expecting Kane back in the mix soon, as quoted by the Daily Mail:

“Yes, Harry, like Bryan (Gil), Cristian Romero, they joined us later.”

“Harry is preparing himself and when he’s ready he’ll join the group and help the team.”

It would merely be a knee-jerk reaction to suggest that Kane ought to remain at Spurs on the back of one performance, but it’s hard to envisage him not being hugely impressed with how his teammates defeated Man City.

Spurs were resolute at the back and incisive on the counter, with Nuno’s influence already clear to see even though he has had limited time with the squad and still doesn’t have his star man available for selection.

Kane has a decision to make over the coming fortnight and needs to determine whether the possibility of forcing a move to Man City is worth risking his standing at Tottenham, where he’s worshipped like a god.

There have been several false dawns in North London during Kane’s time with his beloved Spurs, so he could be forgiven for thinking this is just another.

What if it isn’t, though? What if Spurs really are set to succeed under Nuno, and Kane’s not there to be a part of it? Regardless of what he’d win at City, it’s hard to imagine him ever forgiving himself for that.
