Justin Gaethje has not held back in his rant about Dana White’s handling of the lightweight division and Khabib Nurmagomedov’s title.
Justin was speaking with MMAJunkie about the division and his whole when he said that this poor handling is all down to the UFC’s refusal to strip Khabib Nurmagomedov of his title.
Khabib retired in October after defeating Justin Gaethje but still is holding the lightweight title and no.1 contender Dustin Poirier feels hard done by after his brilliant second round TKO of Conor McGregor.
Speaking with MMA Junkie and quoted by The Daily Mail Gaethje said:
‘The reason why this is happening with Poirier is because Dana White used, he tried to, he did, he f***ed Tony (Ferguson) and Dustin.
‘He said: “f*** you guys, I’m going to take Chandler, and he’s going to be the back-up for this title fight.”
‘That all happened four months ago. We are humans, we have principles, we have morals, and that’s what that is.
‘That’s why Dustin Poirier is saying (he won’t fight Chandler). Well, I would assume. I don’t talk to the guy.’
Chandler made his UFC debut as the Co-Main event of UFC 257 and the current contenders (Holloway and Poirier) are upset that someone has just joined the promotion and has jumped to the top of queue for a title fight.
Poirier is reportedly refusing to fight Chandler and Chandler revealed he was offered a short notice fight for UFC 258 against a mystery fighter.
Chandler has now said that the mystery fighter has pulled out and the fight is now off.
The UFC lightweight division is now a complete mess and Justin thinks it’s all down to Dana’s handling. What do you think, who should fight for the title and should Khabib be stripped immediately?
