A top journalist has inadvertently leaked details of the race to become the new owners of Chelsea Football Club.
Ever since Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government, it has been clear that Chelsea would require new ownership in order to not only sustain their status as one of the top club’s in the land, but even remain in existence.
Chelsea are currently not allowed to funnel any sort of cash through the club, which has left them in dire need of a fast-tracked takeover process, one which has whittled down the prospective buyers to just two.
Consortiums led by Americans Tom Ricketts and Todd Boehly are understood to be the frontrunners, with the Telegraph’s Matt Law being one of the journalists at the very forefront throughout the process.
He accidentally revealed how he’s been able to do that via Twitter on Wednesday afternoon, having shared a screenshot from an article that had apparently upset one of the Ricketts family’s rivals… and not cropped out who it came from.
The sender, Jonathan Goldstein, is part of Todd Boehly’s consortium, so this is not a particularly good look for them, to be bitching to journalists behind Chelsea’s backs, or for Matt Law, who ordinarily doesn’t disclose his sources.
It’s one giant OOPS!
