Official fight scorecards in Anthony Joshua’s favour heading into ninth round of Oleksandr Usyk bout

Anthony Joshua was, remarkably, in with a chance of BEATING Oleksandr Usyk on the cards up to the ninth round of the fight.

Joshua was comprehensively outboxed by the world-class Oleksandr Usyk. The two-time heavyweight champion of the world never looked capable of defeating the Ukranian and retaining his belts.

Usyk ended up winning the bout by unanimous decision, a result which everyone saw coming after what as a masterful performance from him against an unusually passive AJ.

That said, the official fight scorecards had it scored as a majority draw as the fight entered the ninth round. Joshua was very much in the hunt up until that point.

Usyk then asserted his dominance and threatened to take Joshua out. The British fighter quite simply had nothing left in the final four rounds and subsequently lost them all.

Boxing fans will be surprised to have seen so many rounds scored in Joshua’s favour, but several of the early-fight rounds were tight and subject to judges’ opinion.

That should give Joshua some degree of encouragement heading into the rematch.
