Why Anthony Joshua could sense opportunity ahead of Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte

Anthony Joshua has confirmed that he will be ringside for Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte, which could be an avenue towards fighting the winner.

Joshua’s hopes of eventually being crowned the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world took a considerable blow back in September after he was beaten by WBO mandatory challenger Oleksandr Usyk.

The Briton has now been left without any belts and is seen by many not to have much hope of getting them back off of Usyk when the pair eventually meet in their contracted rematch.

That said, there has been doubt cast over the plausibility of Joshua taking to the ring with Usyk anytime soon, with the new unified heavyweight champion currently in Ukraine fighting for his country.

Joshua will not want to wait around too long for Usyk and will be keen to ensure he remains in the conversation at the very top of the heavyweight division. Could that be why he’ll be ringside for Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte?

Of course, he could merely be there to witness a fight between two British heavyweight titans, but he’d also be well-positioned to call out Fury, should the Gypsy King be successful in defeating his compatriot.

If Usyk is out of the equation, Joshua could see it as an opportunity to fast-track himself to the front of the queue to fight Fury. It’ll certainly be something to keep an eye on come April 23rd…
