Tyson Fury’s promoter Bob Arum has insisted that Anthony Joshua is NOT an elite heavyweight, reports The Sun.
Fury and Joshua are the two biggest names in the heavyweight division at current.
Every boxing fan would LOVE to see the British rivals step into the ring together, especially seeing as it would, at the time of writing, be a unification bout.
While we hold onto hope that the mega-fight will be agreed further down the line, Fury’s promoter, Bob Arum, clearly doesn’t think it would be as competitive as most assume it would.
Arum is quoted by The Sun revealing his belief that Joshua is not an elite heavyweight, citing the defeat to Andy Ruiz Jr as evidence of such:
“I’m not thrilled with Joshua.
“I don’t think much of Joshua, because every time the name Joshua is mentioned, I see him laying on the canvas after getting hit by a non-puncher like Andy Ruiz.
“I’m telling you the truth. I may be underestimating Joshua, but I’m not convinced that Joshua is an elite heavyweight.”
This is, of course, nonsense. Joshua is arguably the greatest heavyweight on the planet, which is proven by his track record and will likely be proven again as he defends his titles against WBO mandatory challenger Oleksandr Usyk.
\We won’t be fussed to have not commanded the respect of Bob Arum. He’ll be more focused on taking out the heavyweight division one by one and cementing his position at the top.
