John Stones and Kyle Walker to fly animal friend back to UK in search of a new home

England’s World Cup dreams were ended on Saturday night as they lost 2-1 to France in the quarter-finals of the competition. But amid the sadness of their elimination, their World Cup journey does end with some positive news.

While in Qatar, Three Lions defenders and Manchester City teammates John Stones and Kyle Walker became friends with a stray cat that lived within their training complex, who they named Dave, as the pair promised to bring him home with them if England won the World Cup.

Despite their World Cup dreams now over, the pair kept their promise and have arranged for him to be flown back to the UK in a few months time, as Dave prepares to be chipped and neutered ahead of travelling to a new home.

Janet Berry has been caring for animals in Qatar for almost 20 years and says that dave will be staying with her while he is prepared for his new life.

He’s a beautiful cat and will be staying with me before he’s flown to the players because we don’t want him doing a disappearing act from the hotel.

The FA approached me to help them after the players said they wanted him properly looked after and brought home.”

Hopefully it won’t be too long before Dave is reunited with the players as his search for a new home begins.
