Joe Schmidt left his assistant job with New Zealand after the Rugby World Cup but could be back in a head coaching gig sooner than expected.
Schmidt left his job with Ireland in 2019 but could potentially dive back into management with Australia.
According to the Australian outlet, The Roar, Schmidt could be appointed for the gig if Rugby Australia appointed Peter Horne as their new director of high performance.
If it happens, it could lead to Schmidt facing off with Andy Farrell, if he does get the British and Lions job, during their tour of Australia in 2025.
