A big figure in Galway GAA sadly passes away – RIP

Galway GAA was in mourning last week as a popular figure in the GAA up in the west sadly passed away. Dunmore native Jimmy Halliday sadly passed away on Friday, October 7.

Dunmore MacHales GAA remembered about his days as a player: “As a player Jimmy excelled and featured on Galway teams in the 1950’s. His best day in the maroon jersey was when an unfancied Galway team beat kingpins of the time Mayo in the 1954 Connaught championship with Jimmy scoring a memorable goal on that occasion.”

“A key member of the back room team with the successful 1960’s teams, Jimmy was a devoted servant to the club. His forecast card scheme of the late 1960’s made handsome profits when the club was raising money for a new pitch.
