Jamie Carragher foundation sponsors 8th tier club £20k after sponsor pulls out last minute

According to Reuters former Liverpool defender and TV pundit Jamie Carragher has stepped in to sponsor Marine AFC days before their FA Cup tie versus Tottenham Hotspur.

Marine AFC lost out on £20,000 when a sponsor pulled out of their game against Spurs after Liverpool was put into Tier 3 restrictions by the British government.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher generously stepped in to cover the £20,000 loss the club would have suffered when his JC23 foundation sponsored the match instead.

The Northern Premier League club are set to take on Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham on Sunday in the third round of the FA Cup.

Carragher, who lives nearby, has agreed to sponsor the dugouts and warm-up tops for Marine’s historic FA Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur after the club were let down by a sponsor just days before the game.

“We are indebted to Jamie and the JC23 Foundation,” chairman Paul Leary said.

“The JC23 Foundation do magnificent work in helping young people not just in Liverpool but right across the world. We are proud to partner with them on this special occasion.”

Sponsors pulling out hasn’t been the clubs only financial setback and in a bid to raise some much needed funds they are also holding a raffle to help recoup some of the money they will lose because of the fixture having to be played behind closed doors.

The eighth-tier side will feature against the Premier League giants Tottenham live on BBC
one on Sunday January 10th with kick-off scheduled for 5pm.
