With James Milner set to depart Liverpool at the end of the season, he was given a very strange gift by the club’s groundstaff.

Milner is expected to join Brighton on a free transfer this summer after eight years of service and 331 appearances at Liverpool and as a parting gift, he was given one of the more unique presents by the club.

The Anfield groundstaff decided to dig out the penalty spot and take a picture of the patch of grass where the spot was along with a heartfelt message.

To James, After eight years of destroying our pen spots, it’s now time you looked after one yourself!

Best of luck for the future, All the Groundstaff.”

Milner took to social media to thank the groundstaff for the gift, in one of the funnier pictures he’s posted on his platform.

What a gift that is! No pressure there then, I better get my scissors and pink ruler back out!” #practicemakesperfect

It’s not the most common present to receive as a parting gift, but Milner will no doubt cherish it for a long time.
