Belgium were knocked out of the World Cup in painful circumstances, as a 0-0 draw against Croatia was non enough for them to advance from Group F.

It was a night to forget for Romelu Lukaku, who came on after 46 minutes for the Red Devils as they searched for the goal that would have seen them qualify for the Round of 16, but the 29-year old missed FOUR big chances to score, leaving Belgian fans in tears now their World Cup dreams are over.

After the match, Croatian midfielder Ivan Rakitic, who made 106 national team appearances between 2007 and 2019 took a cheeky dig at the striker on Instagram, saying “Let’s go Lukaku! We have to pay him a month of vacation in Split. Let’s go!” , before blowing a kiss to the camera.

While Rakitic’s actions were no doubt in jest, Ivan Perisic was quick to console his former teammate on the pitch after the full-time whistle, saying he hopes Lukaku can now win as many trophies as possible with Inter Milan.
