The Italian FA are to introduce “green cards” to acknowledge sporting behaviour in an attempt to cut down on unsporting acts such as diving and other forms of cheating.
The scheme will be brought into Serie B, Italy’s second division, and will see the cards brandished to players who exhibit favourable behaviour such as kicking the ball out of play when an opponent is injured and admitting when they have benefited from an inaccurate decision.
Though players and teams will receive no on-pitch advantage for receiving a green card, their names will be noted and a list compiled at the end of the season to recognise the most sporting players and teams.
