From the moment he stepped on the Nou Camp pitch, Lionel Messi was destined to break records and on this day in 2012, he hit a record that we surely wonโ€™t see get beaten for a very long time.

Messi opened his 2012 goal account on January 12th, scoring against Osasuna, and during matchday 17 of the 2012/13 La Liga season on December 22nd, the Argentine found the net against Real Valladolid to score his 91st goal of the calendar year, comfortably surpassing Gerd Mullerโ€™s record of 85 calendar year goals set in 1972.

Of the 91 goals, 59 were scored in La Liga, 13 in the Champions League, seven were shared between the Copa del Rey and Supercopa, and 12 were scored for Argentina.
