Dustin Poirier challenged for Islam Makhachev’s lightweight world championship in the headliner of UFC 302 from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
●Poirier (30-8, 1 No Contest) came into the bout on the back of a stunning second-round knockout of Benoit Saint Denis in March.
●Makhachev meanwhile was on a 13-fight winning streak that included a second-round KO of Alexander Volkanovski their October rematch
Makhachev retains his title by submitting Poirier in the fifth and final round.
