We’re sorry… but considering how much the recent fanfare around Liverpool’s quadruple bid is winding up rival supporters, we couldn’t help ourselves.

The truth is that, while Liverpool do rank as one of the finest teams the Premier League has ever seen, they can’t, at this point, be considered the best.

They have been unfortunate to compete in the same generation as Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, but the facts are that they HAVE been second best in this era.

Liverpool still retain hope of winning four trophies this season, and they may well do it, but Jurgen Klopp’s trophy return since taking the reigns at Anfield is not THAT impressive – certainly next to Guardiola’s.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have been royalled out-performed by Manchester City in recent years

Man City have scooped the bulk of the domestic honours, with Liverpool having to settle for one of each of the big honours, the Premier League and Champions League, as well as a Carabao Cup.

You can throw the Super Cup and Club World Cup in for good measure, if you like.

At the business end of this season, Liverpool do have an opportunity to cement their place among the absolute greats of the game, but they’re not quite there just yet.

Let’s see how they get on over the next few weeks before jumping to any kind of wild conclusions.

The next test for them is against Everton this weekend, which is a fixture that really shouldn’t be causing them all that many problems. After all, Everton have been one of the Premier League’s most well-documented struggles.

They’ll be bang up for a derby on the turf out at Anfield, though, especially considering Burnley’s recent momentum has them breathing down Frank Lampard’s neck.

This could easily be a banana skin for the Reds, one which would all but sign and seal another Premier League title for Man City, who they could also be on a collision course with in the Champions League.

The final stages of this season promise entertainment on the highest level – we can’t wait to see how it all unfolds.
