Republic of Ireland Under-21s 3 Lithuania Under-21s 0
Callum O’Dowda and Conor Wilkinson scored in the opening half hour as the Republic of Ireland maintained their 100 per cent record in their European Under-21 Championship qualifying campaign with a 3-0 victory over Lithuania.
Alan Browne added gloss to the scoreline in the 77th minute as Noel King’s men claimed their third Group Two win at the RSC in Waterford, having beaten Andorra home and away in their opening fixtures.
O’Dowda put the home side ahead in the 27th minute with a close-range volley from Josh Cullen’s ball into the area.
The lead was doubled three minutes later when Wilkinson twisted and turned past his marker before his strike from the edge of the area appeared to wrong-foot Lithuania goalkeeper Edvinas Gertmonas.
Browne made sure there was no way back for the visitors with a fine flick and finish.
The Republic face their first stiff test next week when they take on Italy in Vicenza on Tuesday.
