Ireland may have had a big win, but all twitter could talk about was Bill O’Herlihy

Last night was a night that will be held by some as one of the best nights in Irish soccer history.

After 70 mins of deadlock, Shane Long stepped forward and put a rocket past the helpless Manuel Neuer who was powerless to stop the screamer.

While this was one of the biggest wins the Irish team has had in a few years, and social media was buzzing with messages of celebration, there was one trend in Ireland that could not go unnoticed.

The late Bill O’Herlihy seemed just as talked about as Long’s winning goal, which guarantees Ireland a top three finish, and some people just had the most touching messages about him.

Bill may have passed away in May of this year but we know he was very close to the lads and is never far from the thoughts of his fans.

It’s true what they say, you never really miss someone until they are gone and that could be no more true than of Bill.

“Okey doke. We’ll leave it there so.”
