Investigation exposes extent of Premier League’s concerning cocaine culture

An investigation by The Sun has attempted to uncover the extent of the cocaine crisis affecting Premier League football.

It was a hot topic of conversation over the summer, with the cocaine culture in English football being blamed, in part, for the scenes which unfolded at Wembley as the Euro 2020 final was held.

The Sun have been looking into the extent of the issue in the Premier League, with their findings being traces of the drug found at every single stadium that was tested.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Emirates, Etihad and Stamford Bridge were all tested to find traces of cocaine in toilet cubicles, with one fan claiming that it’s not uncommon for the drug to be taken by fans at their seats.

Another fan, as is mentioned in the report, claimed that some are spending as much as £300 on drugs to consume while following football on a weekly basis.

There are calls for tougher punishments for those who are found to be in possession of cocaine and comparable substances in football grounds, but there is also a recognition of how difficult an issue it is to police.

Ultimately, the cocaine culture is societal, it is not exclusive to the game of football, meaning it will forever be difficult for the powers at be to tackle the issue in our game.

Needless to say, however, something needs to be done…
