Tony Bellew vs Jake Paul fight “exciting” says promoter Eddie Hearn

Eddie Hearn has proposed a cruiserweight boxing match between Jake Paul and former WBC Cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew.

Bellew, whose best days as a boxer came towards the end of his career as he defeated world champion Ilunga Makabu at Goodison Park and later triumphed over David Haye, has since retired from the sport.

That said, is any fighter actually retried nowadays, or are they just waiting for a money opportunity to come along before their dust off their gloves and get back in the ring?

Whether or not Bellew would be prepared to return to the sport is unclear, but his former promoter Eddie Hearn is clearly missing him. He wants to stage a comeback fight between Bellew and YouTuber Jake Paul.


Hearn is quoted by DAZN saying: I’d love to promote it. Anytime you can promote a fight where you can see Jake Paul get chinned would be exciting.”

“Jake Paul just rubs everyone up the wrong way, but I do like what he’s doing. People who’ve given so much to boxing, physically, emotionally and mentally, will find what he’s said insulting.”

“I just laugh, but for someone like Tony, who’s dedicated his life to the sport, it doesn’t sit well with those guys. Hopefully, they can bump into each other, and we can see what happens.”

Bellew knocked out Paul’s trainer BJ Flores back in October 2016 to retain his WBC title. It would be fitting for the social media sensation to launch a vengeance attempt.

That said, it’s unlikely that he would agree to step into the ring with a cruiserweight fighter as powerful as Bellew. After all, he’s an actual boxer, and Paul’s allegeric to fighting those…
