Eddie Hearn spills details on Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk rematch

Eddie Hearn has suggested that Anthony Joshua’s proposed rematch with Oleksandr Usyk will be taking place on UK soil in May.

Joshua was the reigning unified heavyweight champion of the world before being dethroned by Usyk back in September. The British heavyweight will be looking to right that wrong when the pair go toe-to-toe in the rematch.

With the ‘step aside’ possibility now out of the equation, all parties can focus on getting an agreement sorted for this rematch to take place in the first half of the year between the two-time and current heavyweight champs.

While various possibilities have been mooted in the press, Eddie Hearn has provided some clarification on both the potential date and location of the fight, during an appearance on BBC Five Live.

“It’s clear AJ will be fighting Usyk, which is his preferred choice. May is when you’ll see that fight.”

“There’s the UK, America, the Middle East – we’ve had offers all around the world for that fight. I’d like to do it in the UK and we’ll see.”

Joshua lost his belts in the UK, so perhaps it’s only right that he strives to win them back on home soil. Whether he will be successful in defeating Usyk and achieving that is a different matter entirely.
