Lewis Hamilton has won the British Grand Prix after an exciting end to the race in Silverstone.
A number of the drivers suffered severe tire issues, Hamilton’s front left tire wearing out completely, causing him to finish the final lap of the race driving on the rim.
A lap earlier, Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate, Valtteri Bottas suffered the same fate, causing him to take an extra pitstop to get to the end of the race.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen came close to catching Hamilton in the final few corners, after spending most of the race in third place, profiting on Bottas’ misfortune.
Ferrari’s Charles LeClerc took the remaining spot on the podium.
Two drivers failed to finish, with Daniel Kyvat and Kevin Magnussen both crashing out, while Nico Hülkenberg didn’t even get off the line for Racing Point.
Hülkenberg, the team’s reserve, was called up to race after Sergio Perez tested positive for Covid-19 earlier in the week, but didn’t get the opportunity to race due to a technical issue with the car.
Racing will return to Silverstone next weekend, with F1 celebrating its 70th year anniversary at the iconic British track.
