Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has done it again. He’s been sent off in a big game, costing his side dearly.
Xhaka has proven himself to be incredibly unreliable over the years. A good player he may be, a club of Arsenal’s stature can ill afford to be relying on him in fixtures of any magnitude.
As Arsenal travelled to Anfield to face Liverpool on Thursday night, Xhaka was included in the starting XI in midfield, with Mikel Arteta’s selection options in midfield already pretty thin.
That has proven to be a costly decision from Arteta, with Xhaka having been sent off for a last-man challenge on Liverpool forward Diogo Jota.
The Switzerland international brought Jota down when he would have had a clear run at Aaron Ramsdale’s goal, with Michael Oliver not even needing a moment to think before brandishing his red card.
