Bath took on Gloucester at the weekend and there was a phase of play that showed everything that is wrong with the game of rugby union. At one stage rather then running it, both teams decided to keep kicking it back at each other, thank the coaches for this one, see it below;

Jumping on the TNT comms bandwagon? Yes, it nullifies majority of other players, but this is how Leicester played in their title winning season. Forcing the kicking error to win a territory gain. The main issue, as Ugo pointed out, is the 5m rule – allowing players to “goalhang”

No attempt to retreat from the bath defence, should have been given as a penalty and stopped very early on

Fuck me what a boring game, just like tennis but without the sex noises

Horrible stuff, and they should do something about it in the rules, not quite sure what. But full backs playing kick-to-kick isn’t good for anybody.

  1. I am not a great fan of kicking duels but just as an observation there is no obligation to retreat for players in front of the kicker. If they are within 10m of where the ball will land they must vacate that 10m circle. If you are in front of the kicker you may not move forward until you are out inside. You can be out inside by the kicking player or any of his team who were behind him at the time of the kick advancing beyond you OR the receiving player from the opposition team puts you inside once he has advanced 5 metres. So no penalties incurred, just time for the forwards to take a rest an you to refresh your beer whilst waiting for something approaching rugby to happen!!

    1. The great news is that players will have names on their jerseys in the 6 Nations. I’m so f**king excited. All the things in rugby which need straightening out and the RFU rejoices in the news of names on jerseys. What about the caterpillar at the breakdown, players not engaging immediately in the lineout. “Medics”/”WAterboys” roaming up and down the sideline with instructions and “advice” to the officials. Replacements wandering around the in-goal whilst play goes on…..need I go on??. Names on jerseys FFS!!!!!!!!!

      1. Joe I have just read this twice. And again. I think you have read my mind. You are spot-on with all this. All these areas really grind my gears and are totally detrimental to good Rugby. If there are any jobs going at the RFU, and you apply, I’ll write you a great reference!

  4. They should have the same rules as we had at school and that is you were only allowed to kick the ball whilst you were in your own 22. We had to run the ball a lot more
