Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola has revealed his belief that Jorginho should win the 2021 Ballon D’Or, reports the Daily Mail.
Zola is one of the most naturally talented players in the history of the Premier League and Italian football. He earned his right to give an opinion on matters of this nature by having such a glittering career.
The former Chelsea man will likely still be on a high from his country’s Euro 2020 win, so you can forgive him for looking at the race for the Ballon D’Or through rose-tinted glasses.
Zola has claimed that, despite Lionel Messi winning the Copa America, he should be denied this year’s Ballon D’Or, with Chelsea midfielder Jorginho the most deserving.

He’s quoted by the Daily Mail saying:
“Should they give it to Jorginho? It would be deserved. He gives concrete balance and pace to his teams. I was lucky to have him at Chelsea and I know what he does on the pitch.”
“It would be deserved because not only were his performances at a high level, but the teams he played for have been outstanding. This must be taken into account.”
Jorginho is a reigning European champion at both club and national level, having been influential in the winning of both the Champions League and the European Championship.
He’s a serious contender for the most coveted individual accolade in football. Whether he’ll be successful in pipping Messi to the post remains to be seen.
