Gary Neville slammed on social media for ‘scouse joke’

The Manchester United legend has come under-fire for his tweet.

Neville and Jamie Carragher often share banter but some twitter users think he’s crossed the line with his latest jab at the former Liverpool star.

He tweeted:

‘The police bill for the Coronation has tripled to £400m after lone Scouser is spotted wandering around London’

Some social media users were clearly upset by his post.

One person tweeted: ‘You seriously need to have someone read your tweets before posting them Gary. Martin Tyler received a formal warning to curb his language when mentioning martial arts style tackles by Son Heung-min from Sky Sports. This reference to Scousers is every bit as bad – you may think it is funny, but you are just confiming and cementing a very negative stereotype.’

Another added: ‘Verging on racism that.’

A third said: ‘Generalising much?’

A fourth commented: ‘Sometimes it’s okay to ask yourself. Is this for the groupchat or is this for the whole world?’
