Lineker tweeted: “Good heavens, this is beyond awful,” to which he received a response from another user describing his comment as “out of order”.

Lineker in turn responded: “There is no huge influx. We take far fewer refugees than other major European countries.

“This is just an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s, and I’m out of order?”

  1. I think he’s right. He speaks from the heart, with compassion for those in need. The politicians (including those government mouthpieces at the BBC can seek to cancel him for it, but it won’t change the truth.

  2. He has absolutely no idea about the 30 s in Germany.I have lived here for 41 years.immigrants are not being killed for just being immigrants. The government is also not killing people for speaking out about.Good footballer but no brains

  3. He might work for the BBC but he has a mind of his own and has the right to speak his mind. What he said has nothing to do his job as a presenter.

    1. He has every right to his own opinions but has has no right to use his position as a football commentator to spout his political views .

      1. He didn’t ‘use his position as a football commentator’ he used his position as a famous footballer, which he had every right to.

  4. I think it’s time for a change anyway on match of the day far better pundits than Gary I’m afraid

  5. Of course he had a right to speak his mind, however he is representing a company. A company that can take action if its deemed that his voice has had a negative impact on the representation of the company

  6. He is nothing more than a football pundit and as such is not paid to offer his political opinions , he has used his media position to attack the government in front of millions of viewers and that is outside of what he is paid by the BBC and the Taxpayer to do , and if the other pundits back him up then they should also loose their jobs , if they fancy themselves as politicians then let them join a political party and put themselves forward for election otherwise they should shut up and talk about only football

    1. Lol ‘nothing more than a football pundit’ ha ha how old are you? He is first and foremost a footballer who played for his country 80 tonnes scoring 48 goals, and for top flight teams in the countries over 16 years scoring over 300 goals. He also didn’t do anything ‘in front of millions of viewers’ he criticised the government on his private Twitter amount.

  7. Why can’t all of you who are commenting on this article first go back to school and learn how to read and write. As none of you have written a sentence without some of the words that you’re using in them making a blind bit of sense
Just saying how have you managed to read what he has said to me any sense of it with the way you write your grammar

  8. Yes Jason, your first sentence should have ended with a question mark.In your third sentence after the word `saying `there should be a comma. The comments he made about `30 `s Germany i find insulting to all the victims and survivors of the Holocaust

  9. Then you either haven’t read, or haven’t understood, what he said: “There is no huge influx. We take far fewer refugees than other major European countries. This is just an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s”

Which bit of that is insulting to Holocaust victims?

And perhaps learn how to use inverted commas before (wrongly) correcting other people’s grammar!

  10. We do not take in of our own free will. There is a legal way of applying for Asylum.Would you feel the same having asylum seekers living close to you?Since opening 4 homes here criminality has gone up 60%.Famiilies i can understand but young men coming to the UK i do not believe to be in danger in their home countries.Maybe a few but definately not as many as are coming
