Gael Monfils is under no illusion about who can win the French Open this year.
The Frenchman showed loyalty to his partner, Elina Svitolina, and predicted the Ukrainian to win the French Open women’s competition this year.
Svitolina won the first round of the 2025 French Open, defeating Zeynep Sonmez 6-1, 6-1. Monfils has yet to start his campaign.
Monfils was among the group of people who were asked about their picks for the women’s event. He didn’t hesitate for a second and named Svitolina, adding that she has been in great form.

“Hopefully, my wife. Probably my wife. She is in great form, so I’ll trust her to win,” said Monfils.
Monfils and Svitolina tied the knot in 2021. They have a daughter named Skai Monfils. The pair supports each other at important events.
The Frenchman has been in good form recently. He reached the fourth round of the Australian Open and the Miami Open this year. He also won the ASB Classic in Auckland.
Svitolina has been in terrific form, having won 25 wins in 33 matches. However, she needs to produce her best form in big games, that is, after round eight, to win the French Open.
Monfils reached the semifinals of the French Open in 2008. Can he produce a similar run this year?
Svitolina reached the quarterfinals of this competition four times, and this is a big opportunity for her to move beyond the last eight.
