Rugby is the darling of the lot and the best when it comes to generating publicity. Corporate Ireland is all over them and every politician and business wants to be in on the act.

Damien Duff’s appointment as Shelbourne manager has been a godsend. He is the best PR man the sport could have hoped for. The League of Ireland is now hot and sexy. And when it came to the elections, soccer was on the agenda.

Don’t be cribbing about other sports getting the money ..
