Ballyhaunis GAA Chairman Gerry Lyons has died this week in news that has prompted an outpouring of tributes from the club and the wider community.

“It is with deepest sadness that Ballyhaunis GAA has learned of the passing of our dear friend and club chairman Gerry Lyons of Knockbrack.

“Gerry passed in the early hours of this morning following a brief illness with his family by his side at the Mayo Hospice, Castlebar.

“Gerry gave many decades of dedicated service as an outstanding player with the club’s teams of the 70s and 80s and later as a successful coach and capable officer. Gerry was a peerless servant to our club whose selfless volunteerism, kindness and generosity embodied the best traditions of the GAA.

“Ballyhaunis GAA extends our deepest condolences to his loving wife Anne, daughter Michelle, sons Morgan and James, brothers Frank, Liam, Míchéal, John-Joe, Eugene & Noel, sister Mary T; sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, neighbours, friends & his GAA family.”
