“I don’t like to pick on someone who is down” – Tyson Fury incredibly classy on AJ’s defeat to Usyk

Tyson Fury has been commendably respectable when reacting to Anthony Joshua’s defeat to Oleksandr Usyk.

AJ chose to put his belts on the line against WBO mandatory challenger Usyk, with the British boxer heading into the bout as firm favourite.

However, he was outclassed on the night and as a result surrendered all three of his heavyweight world titles.

Joshua also scuppered his chances of unifying the division with a tussle against compatriot Tyson Fury. Fury will be forced to turn his attention to Usyk, should AJ be unable to win the rematch.

With a fight between AJ and Fury thought to have been in the works earlier in the year, you could forgive ‘The Gypsy King’ if he were to use this as an opportunity to gloat.

However, quoted by the Daily Star, Fury decided to show his respect for Joshua and refused to pile on the misery.

“I’ve got no interest in slating anybody or kicking anybody who is down.”

“It ain’t my style. I like to pick on people who are doing well, successful and at the top of their game.”

“I don’t like to pick on someone who is down and probably at their lowest point and maybe mentally unstable and unwell with a big loss after such a long reign.”

“Usyk did his job and Joshua has got to do what he has got to do. It is not my business, I’ve got the Bronze Bomber to deal with and whoever is next we will deal with them.”

Credit to Tyson, he’s been through tough times himself and does not want to see any of his counterparts have the same experience. A man of real class.
