Having won the illustrious title last weekend after defeating former champ Stipe Miocic via knockout in the second round, Ngannou has become Africa’s third champion.
Ngannou and Miocic’s bout at UFC 260 was a re-run of their clash back in 2018 which ended in the former champ winning via unanimous decision.
Despite both fighters now boasting a win over each other, in what would usually be a straightforward trilogy match-up, given the magnitude of Ngannou’s recent performance, a new challenger may be first up for the African.
Former light heavyweight champion and pound-for-pound great Jon Jones has recently decided to vacate his title and move up to compete in the promotion’s heavyweight division.
Speaking immediately after his title showdown with Miocic, Ngannou weighed in on the prospect of facing Jones in what would be one of, if not, the biggest fight in UFC history.
“Well, I think Jon Jones makes more sense for me,” Ngannou told the UFC’s commentary team.“But either way, I’m going to fight.
“In my opinion, Jon Jones is the greatest of all time in mixed martial arts.
“Him moving up is going to be a challenge I will take. But I am the champ. He is coming up and looking for me. I am ready any time soon.”
