Former Liverpool player who was dubbed a ‘flop’ finds new home in Turkey

Former Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic has found a new home in Turkey after several loan spells across Europe.

The Reds signed Markovic from Benfica in 2014, but he never truly got going at Anfield, making just 34 appearances for the side, scoring three goals.

The Serbian had loan spells at Fenerbahce, Sporting, Hull and Anderlecht, before joining Fulham permanently on a free transfer whom he made just one appearance for in 2018/19.

After six months, he left South West London to return his boyhood club Partizan Belgrade where he enjoyed a fruitful spell, scoring 17 goals in 58 appearances.

That upturn in form saw him get a move to Turkish side Gaziantep, for whom he made 18 appearances, scoring four times.

Now, he has made the move once again, this time to fellow Turkish side Trabzonspor where he is set to play alongside ex-Napoli star Marek Hamsik and former Barcelona defender Marc Bartra.

Trabzonspor currently sit 6th in the Turkish Sper Lig, two points off the European places, so hopefully Markovic can rediscover his Partizan form and help his new side make a push for Europe.
