Carlisle United’s Luke Armstrong’s face was split open after being kicked in the head during a match.
The National League returned this weekend, and the start of the season already saw one major injury blow.

Carlisle now face in the fifth tier of English football after they were relegated from League Two last season.
In the curtain raiser against Woking, they were handed a significant blow as Luke Armstrong had his face split open after being kicked in the head by the opponent’s goalkeeper.
Armstrong, who had returned to the team after a loan spell at Motherwell FC, scored the opening goal in the 57th minute.
He was then involved in a tussle in the box trying to net the rebound.
Going headfirst, Armstrong was met with the studs of Woking keeper Craig Ross, leaving the player with horrific injuries.
Armstrong was taken off and replaced by Georgie Kelly.
Carlisle have posted how Armstrong was left with a large cut down the right side of his face.
