Roy Keane linked with Salford City job

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has been linked with a managerial return with League Two club Salford City.

Keane’s last coaching role was as assistant manager with Nottingham Forest. He worked under Martin O’Neill at the club after their high-profile spell coaching the Republic of Ireland national team.

Keane’s last role as a number one was an ill-fated spell as Ipswich Town manager which came to an end in 2011.

However, the Corkman has made his desire to return to management no secret.

According to the Daily Mirror, Keane is the favourite for the Salford job after Graham Alexander was sacked on Monday.

Alexander lost his job despite guiding Salford to two wins and three draws in their opening five games of this season.

Keane was in the stands as Salford drew 2-2 with Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.

The club is co-owned by a number of Keane’s former United teammates. The group includes Paul Scholes, Gary and Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt.

Scholes has taken over as temporary manager following the sacking of Alexander.
