Republic of Ireland coach Robbie Keane has been offered a backroom role by Middlesbrough.

Keane’s former team mate Jonathan Woodgate is set to take over at the Riverside this week.

Ireland’s record goalscorer and striker would be able to continue to work under Mick McCarthy if he took the role.

Former assistant Roy Keane was able to combine roles with the national team and Aston Villa in the past.
