Ireland international Matt Doherty on verge of Spurs move

Tottenham are on the verge of agreeing a deal with Wolves to sign Ireland international Matt Doherty.

The fee is believed to be in the region of £17 million (€18 million) plus add-ons, according to reports.

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho is understood to be an admirer of Doherty and he wants to strengthen his defence.

Doherty, 28, can operate at right-back or right wing-back and this versatility is also said to appeal to Mourinho. If the transfer goes through, it could provide a cash windfall for Bohemians.

Cash windfall for Bohemians

The Dubliner joined Wolves from the League of Ireland side in a €60,000 deal in 2010 but a 10 per cent sell-on clause was included in the agreement.

This means that Bohemians could be in line for a payment of €1.8 million.

Doherty scored seven goals in 50 appearances for Wolves last season, including three goals in the Europa League and four in the Premier League.
