“In 2024 we are all dead” – Florentino Perez spouts an unprecedented amount of ESL nonsense on Spanish TV

Florentino Perez has been spouting an unprecedented amount of nonsense relating to the so-called European Super League, which threatens to end football as we know it.

You’re probably tired of reading about the European Super League already, but the prospect of it coming to fruition is so potentially damaging for football that we have little option but to fight it until the plug is pulled.

Last night’s Monday Night Football programme will have given Premier League viewers hope that this greed-motivated scheme CAN be stopped, but Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has dampened the positivity by spouting some utter nonsense late last night.

While speaking exclusively to Spanish TV show El Chiringuito, Perez insisted that the European Super League is being created to SAVE football, not to destroy it. His lengthy quotes are transcribed and translated by Sky Sports.

“Whenever there is a change, there are always people who oppose it. We are doing this to save football at this critical moment.”

“Audiences are decreasing and rights are decreasing and something had to be done. We are all ruined. Television has to change so we can adapt.”

“Young people are no longer interested in football. Why not? Because there are a lot of poor quality games and they are not interested, they have other platforms on which to distract themselves.”

“If we continue with the Champions League there is less and less interest and then it’s over. The new format, which starts in 2024 is absurd. In 2024 we are all dead.”

“Together we have lost €5 billion. In two seasons Madrid have lost €400m.”

“When you have no income other than television, you say that the solution is to make more attractive matches that fans from all over the world can see with all the big clubs, and we came to the conclusion that if instead of having a Champions League we have a Super League we would be able to alleviate what we have lost.”

It’s even more frightening to think that this is the man who would be in charge of leading the European Super League. He’s unbelievably out of touch.

Perez claims to be looking forward towards a prosperous future for football, but in reality, he’s threatening to undo all the work that has been done to build our great sport.

Make no mistake, this man is an enemy of our game.
