There was a HUGE crash on the first lap of the British Grand Prix, with FIVE drivers having been involved.
Silverstone is regarded as the finest track on the calendar, with entertainment, and drama, a guarantee.
We figured we’d have an intriguing battle for the podium places this afternoon, but we didn’t expect to have a red flag within seconds of the race start.
George Russell, who would have been hoping for a good result in his first appearance at Silverstone while driving for Mercedes, was involved and subsequently ruled out of the race.
The real concern, however, was for Alfa Romeo driver Zhou Guanyu, whose car ended up upside down and slammed into the barriers.
Thankfully, the Chinese racing driver, while no doubt sore, escaped from the accident with his life.
He was extracted on a stretcher but the Alfa Romeo team insist that he is okay.
This is a sobering reminder of the dangers of the sport…
